History

The present house was built in 1720 on the site of a medieval manor, on the edge of a Roman road. It was soon the home of the Duke of Wellington's Engineer General, whose family made Cranmer their home for two hundred years. Norfolk life and the life of the Cranmer Estate are described by his descendant Sir Lawrence Jones, in three delightful books, "Georgian Aftenoon," "An Edwardian Youth" and "Victorian Boyhood" (Macmillan).
Since the 1970's the Hall has been owned by the De Bono family.
